- Abstract
Nonwovens are being produced around the world. The global standards make the production of nonwovens a competitive sector. Currently the selling ing point of nonwovens products is not only the price but mainly the quality. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the nonwovens quality in order to remain in the market. Some inline inspection systems exist that are able to recognize defects such as holes, thin areas and thick areas. But not only defects have an influence on the quality. The nonwovens quality also depends on its optical homogeneity. Especially in nonwovens with small basis weight (e.g. 15 g/m²) irregular fiber distribution is noticeable and effects the subjective quality evaluation by a customer. This work presents a possibility represent the subjective quality evaluation of nonwovens by an objective image analysis.
