- Abstract
The reactivity differences between two seemingly very similar classes of compound has been investigated by means of experimental and theoretical approaches. In recent years the interest in the chemistry of malonic acid half thioesters (MAHTs) and malonic acid half oxyesters (MAHOs) has undergone significant growth. Here we report on the synthesis and reactivity of MAHTs and MAHOs using a proton – deuterium exchange process. A subsequent computational study established that the reactivity difference between the MAHTs and MOHOs is associated with stereoelectronic effects. For more information, see the Full Paper by S. P.
