- Abstract
The article discusses a study conducted by the Utah Department of Health on the statewide increase in buprenorphine use for the treatment of opioid addiction from 2002 to 2011. Analysis of data from the Controlled Substance Database revealed a rise in the number of buphenorphine prescriptions issued by prescribers and pharmacists as well as the number of patients prescribed buprenorphine. In addition, the number of exposures reported to the Poison Control Center has increased from six to 81.
