- Abstract
This article retraces the history of memory, history and cultural institutions and presents the evolving role and societal challenges which characterize the environment surrounding museums and their publics. Additionally, it introduces a case study examined in the framework of a Master Thesis entitled “Study of museum’s representations of Dutch colonial past in the online themed tour of the Rijksmuseum” elaborated in 2020 for the University of Strasbourg, France and the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, The Netherlands. The work puts forward the application of decolonisation practices and other important counteractions that museums can embrace in their process of renewing a story-telling for a public which needs more inclusiveness, multifocality and comprehensive narratives.
