- Abstract
This study intends to determine the best interests of children and adolescent workers in Venezuela. This objective is approached according to a documentary research strategy, supported by the analytic research method. Sources for collecting information come from four areas: constitutional, legal, sublegal and doctrinal. Children and adolescents, due to their condition of vulnerability, are protected by legislation, organisms, agencies and special courts corresponding to the State, the families and society, designed to assure, with absolute priority and integral protection, their best interests in the decisions and actions that concern them. This special protection covers even the right to work for children and adolescents who cannot be submitted to economic exploitation or the performance of any tasks that could interfere with their education, be dangerous or harmful to their health or their integral development. According to Convention number 182 of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the so-called worst forms of child labor ought to be prohibited and eliminated, but not work that fosters the physical, mental and social well-being of the children and adolescents, since both their best interests as well as work are human rights recognized and guaranteed by Venezuelan law.
