- Abstract
The article focuses on the changes in the planning process for future urban growth in the U.S., and the types of urban forms that are likely to result from such planning. It discusses the traditional and new techniques of planning, how the new techniques are making modifications in the current planning processes, and how planning processes can be developed to better meet the needs of contemporary urban life. It mentions the need for improving planning processes in such a way as to address key urban characteristics including the great size, complexity and interaction. It also mentions the governmental response to urban problems, and the involvement of urban governments in social and economic issues such as race relations.
