- Abstract
The article discusses the workshop for elementary teachers inaugurated in 1951 by Boston University School of Education in recognition of the need to increase the supply of qualified elementary teachers in Boston, Massachusetts. The six-week summer course was designed to provide special instruction to liberal-arts college graduates who plan to be part of the teaching profession. It is simultaneously conducted with the University Summer Session at the Underwood School at Newton. Under the course, graduate students observe and work with children on the grade level in which they can teach most successfully and perform actual teaching in all elementary subjects. The Boston University provides the cost of the entire program.
