- Abstract
The article presents an essay that discusses the ordination of Baptist women as a novelty and contested symbol in the Baptist faith. Topics discussed include the first woman ordained at a U.S. based Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) church in 1964, ordination being one of the three formal authorizing practices for ministry, while theological education and a call to ministry are the other two.
