RESEARCH ON THE VICARIATE PASTORAL COUNCIL PROCESS IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT: INTERVIEWS WITH VICARS AND LAY REPRESENTATIVES.
- Abstract
The Research on the Vicariate Pastoral Council (VPC) Process in the Archdiocese of Detroit was conducted between May 2002 and January 2003. Vicars from each of the 26 vicariates were interviewed, with the interviews lasting forty-five minutes to an hour on average. The respondents believe the VPC process worked. Another major finding was that the majority of vicars and laity believed the socio-demographic data and surveys were very helpful. Generally, both lay representative and vicars mentioned that participation, involvement or commitment by some laity and vicars was problematic. In particular, the turnover of membership on the VPC was problematic, as well as the fact that some representatives seldom attended the VPC meetings. The number one item mentioned by lay representatives about what they would change about the VPC process was the issue of speeding up the process.
