- Abstract
Much has been written on the impact of El on the lives of people as well as on profit organizations. This, however, does not seem to be the case in the Arab world in general and non-profit organizations in particular, where relevant research that shows the effect of El on the work environment is still missing. This paper hopes to fill the gap by assessing the relation between emotional intelligence, based on the trait model, and two of the most important criteria of job performance, namely Individual Task Adaptivity and Proactivity. A sample of 230 voluntary employees (182 males and 35 females) took part in the experiment while on the job. The results showed a positive statistically significant relation between El and task adaptivity and proactivity, i.e. 4.5-11% of the variance in the job adaptivity and proactivity scale has been explained in terms of El factors. The study depended on 4 variables (gender, nationality, marital status, job title) with a view to showcase their connection with the proposed hypothesis. The results indicated that there were no significant differences between the various variables and El except for marital status, where married people showed greater ability to regulate their emotions. The paper thus provided an explanation of the nature of existing connection between emotional intelligence and individual task adaptivity and proactiviy.
