- Abstract
The article presents the discourse of Sabato Morais in April 6, 1861. Morais confronts on the slow alleged reforms of time-honored Jewish institutions and practices that effectively stripped them of their substance. He calls that those who would act their freedom from the insufferable burden of traditional Jewish practice as respect to a higher reverence. His argument focused on recasting Jewish worship to better harmonize with contemporary Christian liturgical forms and formalities that would result to indifference. He stressed that true reverence is nurtured by the practices characteristic of traditional Jewish life.
