- Abstract
The article "Generalist approach in organized emergency services - different from practice?" compares the work of general practitioners in practice with that in organized emergency services. The authors emphasize that the two approaches are based on different attitudes and therefore lead to different working methods. While generalists provide a wide range of patient care and work in the low-risk area, specialists treat a pre-selected group of patients. The authors emphasize the importance of appropriate decision-making and point out that the conditions for general practitioners are changing due to changes in the healthcare system. Especially in organized emergency services, generalists have to work with a different epidemiological characteristic and may also work in the high-risk area. The Hamburg model of a general practice-led emergency clinic has shown that good documentation and justification of diagnosis and therapy are important.
