- Title
Levosimendan in viral myocarditis: not only an inodilator but also a cardioprotector?
- Authors
Parissis, J. T.; Filippatos, G.
- Abstract
The article presents a discussion on the use of the inotropic agent levosimendan, in viral myocarditis. Levosimendan has vasodilatory properties, that exerts positive inotropic effects by binding to cardiac troponin C in a calcium-dependent manner, sensitizing myofilaments to calcium. Researches involving this agent reportedly suggest that it acts not only as an inodilator, but also as a cardioprotector. Information is also provided about several researches done on the subject.
