- Abstract
This article presents a study on the effects of a low-glycemic diet vs low-fat diet in obese young adults. The object of the study was to determine whether insulin secretion affects weight loss with the two popular diets. The authors concluded that variability in dietary weight loss trials may be partially attributable to differences in hormonal response. Reducing glycemic load may be especially important to achieve weight loss among individuals with high insulin secretion. They also conclude that regardless of insulin secretion, a low-glycemic diet has a beneficial effect on high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations.
