After the crisis in Cyprus, the world community was put on notice that bank deposits may no longer be safe. Contrary to expectations, even smaller depositors, not just the big depositors, lost money in Cyprus banks. This raises a troubling question: will bank bail-ins--by depositors, creditors and bondholders--become the norm in other countries as well?
