- Abstract
This article focuses upon those aspects that attracted the attention of colonial chroniclers and represent possible echoes of the specificity of the Acolhua Pre-Hispanic religion. Focus is upon the way these first Spanish chroniclers approached the sovereigns of Tezcoco. The fading of the Acolhua memory resulted in distortion of the historical Pre-Hispanic traditions. However, these were transformed to accredit the idea of a Pre-Christian Acolhua monotheism. These developments changed radically the vision of the religion practiced in Pre-Hispanic Tezcoco, but these were significant attempts to re-enable the Indian cultural inheritance.
