- Abstract
The article presents criticism on the 1867 book "The Rise and Progress of the Kingdoms of Light and Darkness," by Lorenzo Dow Blackson. Modeled after books like "Paradise Lost" and "Pilgrim's Progress," the work tells the story of human history as a war between good and evil, God and Satan. Addressing the period of Reconstruction in the U.S., various images of an original copy of the text are also offered.
