- Abstract
Introduction: The incidence of internalizing and externalizing behaviors in children is increasing and intervention processes are not always effective. Health psychology is interested in understanding the way in which people's health is developed, maintained and enhanced. Sport has proved to be an activity that allows the development, maintenance and enhancement of people's mental health status. Methodology: The type of research was quantitative, with a non-experimental design, descriptive/comparative and transversal level. Two study groups were formed. The group of cases, composed of 56 children belonging to Taekwondo seedlings of the city of Medellin. The control group consisted of 54 children matched by age and socioeconomic stratum who did not practice sport on a regular basis. Results: hyperactivity, aggression, anxiety, somatization, adaptability, social skills and leadership have scores that differ significantly between the group of cases and the control group.
