- Abstract
The article expands and updates the historical evidence on a debate whether the editio princeps of the first Hasidic book "Toledot Ya'akov Yosef," by R. Jacob Joseph ben Zevi ha-Kohen Katz, was printed in Medziborz or Korez. It presents three Hasidic tales linked to the publication of the book which lie at the heart of the debate about whether a Medziborz edition of the book was printed in 1780. According to the first tale, R. Jacob Joseph went from door to door selling copies of the book at a price of one ducat per copy. The second version of the tale relates to the difficulty R. Jacob Joseph had in selling the book. The last tale states that when the book came into the hands of R. Landau, he condemned the book to be burned.
