- Abstract
The article discusses the investment by health care insurance companies in mindfulness research and programs. Topics covered include the evolution of meditation as a kind of spiritual practice, the fundamental requirements for the practice of meditation and the conduct of research to examine the effect of daily meditation on the brain. Also mentioned are the psychiatric benefits of meditation and the goal of managed care in reducing rising health care costs.
