- Abstract
Two papers (N. Malhorta and R. K. Gupta, Phys. Rev.C31, 1179 (1985)) and (S. Kumar and R. K. Gupta, Phys. Rev.C55, 218 (1997)) introduce calculations of the interaction potential between two deformed and pole-to-pole oriented nuclei forming a necked configuration in the overlap region. These calculations have been carried out by using the nuclear proximity approach and utilizing the two-center model for the parameterization of the nuclear shapes. In the first paper the proximity potential for the non-overlapping as well as for the overlapping necked symmetric configuration have been derived. The results obtained for the overlapping necked symmetric configuration is generalized to the asymmetric configuration in the second paper. We have found that the obtained formulas for the proximity energy for the overlapping necked configuration in these previous works are to be corrected as they are obtained with an unrealistic parameterization of the nuclear shape in the neck region.
