- Abstract
The article examines societal beliefs about the use of force in Israel, Italy, and France, with a particular focus on their role in civil-military relations and public opinions regarding casualties. Details on casualty aversion, casualty sensitivity, and political decision-making are presented. Topics discussed include the Israeli Defense Forces, mourning, sacrifice, legitimacy, and the presence of French military personnel in public life. The structure and culture of each country's military is also examined.
