- Abstract
Popular public feasts in honour of Jan Hus as witnessed by members of a little congregation of the Moravian Church in the Eastern Bohemian region promised to announce a revival of Protestantism in Bohemia. This encouraged the minister of Pottenstein to step more and more into public, even promoting the highly political movement "Away from Rome" in order to push the mission among the Catholic population. History and identity of the Protestant Church, claiming their roots in the Bohemian reformation, put them in a favourable position. However, the development of the Hus feasts to secular, anticlerical and nationalistic demonstrations not only led to disappointment regarding mission. Moreover, the Moravian Church found itself excluded, an isolation they had to share with other groups in society.
