THE LEHMAN MINIBONDS CRISIS IN HONG KONG: LESSONS FOR PLAIN LANGUAGE RISK DISCLOSURE.
- Authors
Godwin, Andrew
- Abstract
The article talks about the special lessons of the minibonds crisis as it broke in Hong Kong, China, following the collapse of a very popular investment product offered by Lehman Brothers Asian Ltd. It focuses on the lessons for plain language risk disclosure for the description of investments that accompanied the marketing of the minibonds. The author stresses that no matter how clear the description of the investment and of the risk may be, investors will generally be blinded by the oral presentations of the merits of the merits of the investment and their own eager anticipation of being part of the high returns.
