- Abstract
The article uses the motion picture "The Spirit of the Beehive," directed by Victor Erice, to illustrate how enthusiasm for motion pictures, also known as cinephilia, has been disavowed by film theorists and compares it to aspects of childhood. The author describes a scene in the film during which a young girl watching the motion picture "Frankenstein" has an epiphany that changes her perceptions of life. He suggests the scene illustrates that motion pictures offer more than escapism and notes Erice's views on the effect of motion pictures on children from wartime environments.
