- Abstract
The article presents the result of an examination of a 0.56-gram sapphire crystal, which was submitted by Shyamala Fernandes of Jaipur to the Gem Testing Laboratory. The crystal was reportedly mined from Winza in central Tanzania, and was observed to exhibit faint horizontal striations along the pyramidal faces, as well as tiny hexagonal-to-subhexagonal growth hillocks on the pinacoid. There was also a transparent purple-pink core that was surrounded by a dark blue to black rim, when viewed along the c-axis.
