Lizards in IMITATION AMBER.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article examines two items which resemble lizards trapped in amber that were submitted to the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA) West Coast laboratory. The first item features a decomposed lizard with a broken tail and one foot missing. Microscopic study between crossed polarizers shows a strain zone surrounding the lizard's body. In the second item, the lizard was in a much better condition, with less decomposition. Microscopic examination showed several gas bubbles concentrated along the separation plane. These items show some of the measures and materials that can be used to form imitations of creatures preserved in amber.
