- Title
Unnatural Allies? The Oxfordshire Élite from the Exclusion Crisis to the Overthrow of James II.
- Authors
Eagles, Robin
- Abstract
The article focuses on a political alliance among the political élite in Oxfordshire, England and the overthrow and displacement of King James II. The author suggests that James, the last Stuart king in the country, alienated many different groups that encouraged confederation. It is also suggested that a destabilization of Oxfordshire local administration by James backfired as a political strategy for preservation of royal control. Other topics include changing political loyalties and loss of organizational clarity.
