- Abstract
This essay examines hostile annotations made to a copy of the first and quarto edition of Sir William Davenant's incomplete epic poem "Gondibert" that was published in 1651. Topics discussed include the possible role of Sir John Denham, the orchestrator of anti-Davenant satires in the 1650s, in the annotations and the palaeographical issues and the identities of the annotators. Also discussed is the material and political circumstances of the first quarto edition of the poem.
