- Abstract
The article offers information regarding the expression of heritage by Mongolians in Hohhot and other urban centres in contemporary China through the discussion of Mongolian folksong. It mentions that the compositions by Han Chinese musicians from the 1940s through the Cultural Revolution was the most readily available Mongolian folksongs in China such as the "The Beautiful Grasslands, My Home" which reflects the happiness of minority people under the Communist party ruling. It states that the promotion of the ethnic identity and to openly practice the tradition of Mongolians were done due to the economic and political openness in the country.
