- Abstract
The article focuses on surveying in New Zealand during the nineteenth century and surveyor Fred Mace who lived in the King Country, New Zealand. It states that surveying is concerned with physical boundary crossing and associated to cultural and social boundary crossings. It mentions that the surveyors in King County such as Mace posses the ability to negotiate political and ideological boundaries. It says that the surveying in the country is related to colonial ideal of civilization, especially through European preoccupations and demarcation, permanence, and fixity.
