- Title
J. S. BACH'S MEINE SEEL'ERHEBT DEN HERREN (BWV 10) AS CHORALE CANTATA AND MAGNIFICAT PARAPHRASE.
- Authors
Peters, Mark A.
- Abstract
The article addresses the exceptional textual and musical features of famous German composer Johann Sebastian Bach's "Meine Seele erhebt den Herren," within the context of the Magnificat's importance in Leipzig, Germany. It argues that the nature of the cantata "Meine Seele" helps understand it in a different way from other Bach's poetic and melodic cantatas. It proposes three factors that influenced Bach to choose "Meine Seele" as model for his chorale cantata for the Feast of Visitation.
