Berg's Büchner Text and the Genesis of Form.
- Authors
Hall, Patricia
- Abstract
An essay is presented on interpreting the two scenes in proximity in the opera "Woyzeck," by Austrian composer Alban Berg. It notes that the scenes reveal the generation for Berg's thoughts on the formation of an atonal idiom as well as how these thoughts are completed in his compositional sketches. It refers to the alterations of the Buchner text, saying that Berg has eliminated extraneous terms and compounded the dialogue to further Buchner's expressionistic style.
