- Abstract
The article focuses on multiple options for prevention of AIDS. In battling HIV, many interventionists advocate the use of hierarchical messages that present multiple prevention options in order of decreasing effectiveness. As rates of infection with HIV continue to rise among women, developing and promoting effective HIV prevention options becomes increasingly critical. For a variety of reasons, male condoms, although highly efficacious at protecting women against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, have not been widely adopted by the majority of women at risk for HIV. Consequently, health practitioners and researchers have advocated the development and promotion of products other than male condoms that women can use to protect themselves from HIV.
