Abstract
The article discusses an economic analysis conducted by researcher Joshua Pearce from Michigan Technological University on the cost of buying common household items versus the cost of making them on 3D printers for the average family in the U.S. Open-source designs for 3D printers, customizable products, and forecasts for the economic impact of 3D printing are also discussed.
