- Abstract
The article discusses the development of a workplace safety culture with particular emphasis on a concept called "actively caring," in which employees are self-motivated to pursue safety for each other as an interdependent unit. An overview is presented of actions taken to promote an actively caring safety culture by the manufacturer Shaw Industries Group Inc. Fibers Division, including communication training, management recognition of worker efforts, and conducting organizational surveys.
