- Title
After Asilomar.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the use of scientist-led conferences and why they are not the best method of resolving debates concerning controversial research. It mentions the 1975 conference at the Asilomar resort in California discussing the science of mixing DNA from different organisms. It explains the drawbacks of Asilomar-like conferences in the 21st century and the need for scientists to communicate with the public to better compete with religious and activist groups and political polarization.
