- Abstract
The article presents the study about the constitution of the urban nucleus currently belonging to Cabo Verde's city, southwest of the state of Minas Gerais. At the second half of XVIII's century the territory in case pertained to the urban network of the Sapacaí's river, which covered almost all the southwest of the Captaincy of Minas Gerais, border with the state of São Paulo. This territory was the scene of contests between Captaincys and the Bishops of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. The article also elaborates an analysis about the foundation and structure of the urban set of Cabo Verde, settlement that originates as a mining district. The present study seeks to fill a gap in historiography through the analysis of a city that has grown little since its origin, whose set demonstrates a Brazilian Portuguese way of founding urban nucleus/center in the second half of the XVIII's century.
