- Abstract
Sociodemographic, biomedical, and psychosocial factors influence the duration of breastfeeding. This study aimed to analyze the determinant of breastfeeding duration in children aged 24 months in Indonesia using data from The Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS -2017). This cross-sectional study used secondary data from the IDHS-2017 with a sample of 24-month-olds as many as 226 subjects. Independent variables in this study were sociodemographic and biomedical characteristics, while the dependent variable was the duration of breastfeeding. Data processing and analysis are performed using IBM SPSS version 25. Data analysis includes univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. The bivariate analysis used Spearman correlation tests (based on data normality) for numeric data and the Chi-Square test for categoric data. Multivariate analysis used dual logistic regression. The variable that was the main predictor of the duration of breastfeeding <24 months was drinking using a bottle/pacifier and living in rural areas. Drinking by the bottle was a risk factor for the duration of breastfeeding <24 months with OR=4.610 (2.482–8.563). Living in rural areas is a protective factor of the period of breastfeeding <24 months with OR=0.488 (0.272- 0.875). Our findings conclude that breastfeeding duration is predicted by drinking habits using bottles/pacifiers and living in rural areas.
