- Abstract
Lullaby is a genre of anonymous folk literature. It is sung by mothers to calm children when they are being breastfed, put to sleep, or crying. Moreover, lullaby can be sung not only by mothers, but also by people such as grandmother, nanny, older sister, aunt. It is seen that terms such as " lorî, l orîn, l orik" a re u sed as the equivalent of this literary genre in different geographies where Kurds live. It is possible to say that there is more or less a unity in naming. In the study, various characteristics of lullabies are included through examples of lullabies. The most prominent of these characteristics is that lullabies a res unginaplain language and the first person who sang them is not clear. Since the addressees o f lullabies are children, they are produced with the sense of motherhood and performed in that way. It is not possible to argue that all Kurdish lullabies, which consist of stereotyped and rhymed words, are in perfect order and harmony in terms of shape. This genre is related inform and content with many other products such as chansonette, nursery rhyme and lament. Lullabies, which can mention everything related to children, are performed with a special melody and have very beneficial effects on children's education. After sharing the definitions and characteristics about lullabies, the findings obtained from the research are evaluated in the conclusion part. According to this, it is stated that Kurdish lullabies should be classified in two different ways as regular and irregular in terms of shape, they are produced and performed by women, and lullabies should be accepted in women's literature because they contain the sense of femininity and motherhood. In addition, it is emphasized that lullabies are the only literary product sung for human beings from birth to death, and the reasons are explained and it is emphasized that there is a need for more a cademic research on lullabies and similar genres in Kurdish folk literature.
