- Abstract
The notion of Evidence is one of the most ambiguous to define philosophy and human thought have ever been able to contemplate. Defining the evidence means first of all being sure that this idea contains reliable meaning. The whole world of nature follows probabilistic laws, linked to the presence of the second law of thermodynamics. The ideology of the late nineteenth century contemplated a construction of the linear path of knowledge and a progress, linked to certain goals to be achieved. The scientist was used to fragment each problem into many simpler questions which in turn were solvable. To increase the knowledge about a certain phenomenon would inevitably lead to understanding it. It was as if the scholar at the nature found himself facing a book made of pages that had a single question to answer. To obtain the answer to one of those pages would have given the pass to read the next one. The opposite side of the term of Evidence ended up being represented, in scientific activities, by the feeling of Compassion. However, even this disposition of the human soul revealed ambiguities of meaning and objectives depending on those who had formulated and practiced Compassion itself.
