- Abstract
In this essay, the question revolving around the standpoint of emancipatory social critique is dubbed as 'the epistemological problem of critical theory'. This problem is situated as fundamental to critical social theory in general and the project of this journal specifically. Since a revolutionary proletariat cannot be considered as the (only) feasible agent of social change anymore, the essay explores how emancipatory social critique could attach itself to those standpoints that are often reduced to identity politics, such as the standpoint of politics of forms of life and the politics of counter-conducts.
