- Abstract
The article focuses on the children's book "Detective Golly’s Hand-Book with Some Hints for Young Sleuths," which was released by the British jam manufacturer Robertson's in the mid-20th century. The author discusses how the book's protagonist, Golliwog, is a representation of the fictional character Sherlock Holmes, explains the character in relation to race in Victorian minstrelsy, and examines how the book speaks to British cultural identity.
