- Title
Strategies for Engaging FCS Learners in a Large-Format Classroom: Embedded Videos.
- Authors
Leslie, Catherine Amoroso
- Abstract
This article presents a method for utilizing technology to increase student engagement in large classroom formats. In their lives outside the classroom, students spend considerable time interfacing with media, and they are receptive to information conveyed in electronic formats. Research has shown that multimedia is an effective learning resource; yet, the logistics are sometimes cumbersome and create opportunities for students to become disengaged. Clipping, annotating, and embedding videos into PowerPoint presentations was found to be a successful method for FCS educators to increase student engagement and learning. Seamlessly incorporating multimedia brings the lecture of the past into sync with the technological environment in which students can thrive, employ multiple senses, and make connections with course material and the world.
