Title
Cytochrome P450 enzymes and psychiatric drugs.
Abstract
The article discusses the impact of the liver's cytochrome P450 enzymes on the patient's psychiatric drug choice, specially when he is taking multiple medications. It cites one hypothetical case of a woman who sought treatment for depression while taking tamoxifen, and when she was given fluoxetine or paroxetine her bloods levels have been affected. To reduce drug's side effects, physicians are advised to review past drug history of the patient before prescribing any drug.
