- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of faith in African American marriages and families. American families were found to regard religion with high importance as disclosed by empirical literature, as shown by 90% of all married couples and parents having religious affiliations. A work by Curran and his colleagues found that African Americans view marriage as a sacred vow and a covenant despite the drop in marriage rates in recent decades. A study done by the authors found that spiritual beliefs also impact the lives of wives, husbands and their families. The authors conclude while religion is considered very important for most African American families, it is considered the core of life for some families.
