- Abstract
In this study a greater extent sets basic intention to expand and help elucidating the main theoretical questions about the problems of democratic transition and consolidation of postcommunist Europe, respectively the most demanding routes and tasks for democratization of post-communist societies. Thus Albert O. Hirshman would call „exceeding the limits", the intention of the authors Linz and Stepan is not only to expand the scope and utility of democratic theory but also to contribute to the task of world analyzing historical transformation in post-communist Europe. Theoretical problems explored in the seven chapters of the fourth part of the book "The problems of democratic transition and consolidation" (Southern Europe, South America and postcommunist Europe) authors Juan H. Linz and Alfred Stepan, Print: Academic Press, Skopje 2009, have the following structure. In the 15th chapter of the question „historical background" of postcommunist Europe in attempt to equitably examine the joint and different components in this region. It also analyzes the specific heritage that the totalitarian and post-totalitarian regimes have in each of the five arenas whose effective functioning is helpful to the task of consolidating the democracy. This analysis explores: Historical rump of post-communism; Authoritarian communism, ethical civil society and the ambivalent political society: Poland; Diversity of post-authoritarian regimes, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria; The effects of totalitarianism to sultanism in a democratic transition: Romania; „Problems of statehood" and transitions: the USSR and Russia; When democracy and the national states are conflicting logics: Estonia and Latvanija; Postcommunist Europe, concluding comparative opinions.
