- Abstract
The article discusses the role of the protein LIKE EARLY STARVATION (LESV) in starch synthesis in rice. The researchers identified a rice mutant, floury endosperm9 (flo9), that had a defective LESV protein and observed changes in starch accumulation and granule initiation in the mutant grains. They propose that LESV interacts with other proteins, particularly FLO6, to facilitate the access of ISA1 to starch granules, thereby affecting starch synthesis. The authors suggest further research to explore the different mechanisms of LESV function and its potential effects on glucan structure and starch metabolism in different species and organs.
