- Abstract
The article explores theoretical or practical connections between the fields of Middle Eastern and Indian Ocean studies. Topics discussed include scholarly inquiry on the external boundaries of the Middle East, its relationship with Europe and the modernizing projects of the Ottoman center, and the managed transition of the region from Ottoman and European mandatory rule to the emergence of Arab nationalism. The problem related to prioritization and balance of the Indian Ocean history is noted.
