Nakba and Independence: Two Sides of the Same Coin.
- Authors
AbuZayyad, Ziad
- Abstract
The article focuses on the international relation between Israel and Palestine. Accordingly, the 1948 war marks the creation of Israel, while the Palestinians commemorate the loss of their homeland. The establishment of the Zionist movement and the arrival of the first waves of Jewish immigration was the beginning of the friction and confrontations between the two sides. The Balfour Declaration in 1917 has resulted fears, frustrations, and anger of the Palestinians who felt betrayed by the British and their allies, and led to an escalation of the confrontations between Arabs and Jews. The fulfillment of the Palestinians' aspirations to statehood, independence and justice is the key to peace, stability and prosperity for the peoples of Israel and Palestine.
